Last weekend, The National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, Australia debuted David Shrigley’s Life and Life Drawing, a survey of works by the Glasgow-based doodler, including drawings, paintings, sculpture, animated videos, artist books and a new commission titled “General Store.”
This was the first time my sons and I had seen Mr Shrigley’s work, but we liked that his simplistic style and sense of humor could be appreciated by kids and adults alike.
My favorite part of the show — the climax — was the life drawing room. It’s common for art museums include an interactive element, but it seemed especially appropriate for this show, and like the other pieces, did not take itself too seriously.
Lastly, a detail of selected participant’s drawings that were taken from the wall. The show is on until March 1, 2015. See more of David Shrigley’s work here.
